LECTURE: Ancient Mesopotamian Law & the Hebrew Bible
A lecture given to my Ph.D. seminar class on May 23, 2016. In this lecture, I provide an introduction to Ancient Mesopotamian Law. Additionally, relevant archaeological data is discussed: the Laws of Ur-Nammu (c.2100 BCE); the Laws of Lipit-Ishtar (c.1930 BCE); the Laws of Eshnunna (c.1770 BCE); and the well-known Law Code of Hammurabi (c.1750 BCE). Finally, Mesopotamian Law is juxtaposed with Biblical Law, along with a brief discussion on what can be concluded from the data.
